At the regular meeting in February 2024, the Government approved the pilot issuance of criminal record certificates via the VNeID application in Hanoi and Thua Thien Hue.
To further facilitate citizens and enhance the application of e-government in daily life, on August 24, 2024, the Prime Minister issued Official Letter No. 656/TTg-KSTT to the Ministers and Chairpersons of Provincial People's Committees, allowing the expansion of the pilot program for issuing criminal record certificates via the VNeID app nationwide from October 1, 2024, until June 30, 2025.
Additionally, on June 11, 2024, the Prime Minister issued Decision No. 498/QD-TTg, approving the plan to reduce and simplify regulations and administrative procedures related to criminal record certificates. Accordingly, most administrative procedures currently requiring the provision of a criminal record certificate will, in the future, be reduced, abolished, or simplified by allowing the submission of electronic criminal record certificates in place of the current paper format.
